"I actually think our music is a little maudlin sounding so it soothes us fine carrying that sort of bandname."...Alf Vesterelv

The Maudlin Hounds are Alf Vesterelv - Lead Vocals, guitars & keyboards. Bengt Y. Nilsen - Bass & backing vocals. Jarle Måløy - drums, percussion & backing vocals.

Three piece powerpop/classic rock band based at Storsteinnes, northern Norway. Storsteinnes is founded an hours drive from the city of Tromso where the 46664 Mandela concert was held and broadcasted worldwide.

The Maudlin Hounds have been together for three years mostly writing songs but also playing a lot of concerts across the northern parts but they are now set up for the rest of the country. The band has been received well with critics from both the public as well as media for their live performances and songwriting. They are now working in the studio recording the new album which is going to be released in November this year. The band recently signed a record deal with NNP (northern Norwegian record company) and things are looking bright in the Hounds camp as you are reading this.

The Maudlin Hounds got the idea for their band name from the Morresey album, "Late Night, Maudlin Street" but the full name of the band wasn't completed until later on. Alf explains:
"We thought "maudlin" was a cool and rather unusual word for what it means. At least for non-English personell. Nobody knew what it ment so people were asking us all the time about it. In the beginning when there was just me and the bassplayer, Bengt, we were using it for a project we were working on before The Maudlin Hounds but we felt it had no wiser meaning alone on it's own but we liked the word. Then we came across a picture of these sad and sentimental looking dogs on it and we thought, that's it. We just couldn't go for "The Maudlin Dogs", it sounded stupid so we went for "Hounds" instead. There were also a few other options but they didn't make it on the concert poster. I actually think our music is a little maudlin sounding so it soothes us fine carrying that sort of bandname."
