Music is more than just sounds. It is feelings from the heart. It is reality brought to life, by beautiful words and music that can become a part of you. It can haunt you and make all your dreams come true. It is a cry in the dark to touch your soul. It can make you laugh or cry, dance or sigh. The right song can bring us the ultimate high or bring back feelings of utter loss and despair. Music can affect our lives in more ways than we know. It can teach us and help us learn. Music can change the world.
That is where the Damien Project comes in. We came in to existence for one ultimate goal. To bring awareness about, to teach people, and to help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, also known as Juvenile Diabetes, and in the process have had our music used in Film and Documentary works!
In type 1 diabetes, a person’s pancreas produces little or no insulin, a hormone necessary to sustain life. In a healthy person, glucose "a form of sugar produced when food is digested" is burned as fuel to supply the body with energy. To turn food into energy, the body requires insulin, which allows glucose to move from the bloodstream into body cells to be used for energy. In people with type 1 diabetes, the body’s own immune system has attacked and destroyed its insulin producing beta cells (resulting in life-threateningly high levels of blood glucose), meaning insulin must be obtained from another source injections or an insulin pump. Although the causes are not entirely known, scientists believe the body’s own immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. It is not caused by obesity or by eating excessive sugar, which are two common myths about type 1. To stay alive, people with type 1 diabetes must monitor their blood sugar frequently, inject insulin several times a day, and coordinate physical activities with their meal plan and insulin intake. It has devastating complications and a when a child develops diabetes, it takes 15 years off that child's life, at diagnoses.
Mark Skipper's daughter Tori, was diagnosed with this disease when she was 18 months old. She has already lived with Diabetes for more than half her life and she is only 3 years old. She has already had 3960 injections of insulin and has had over 6600 finger pricks to check her blood sugar, just to keep her alive. When this happened, it became Marks mission to help raise awareness about this disease through his music.
We want our music to open your ears and hearts to what you can do help us is find the cure. We want our music to touch your soul, to feel the our pain and our love for the children. To make as many people as we can, know that they can help make a difference and save millions of childrens lives. What better way to do that than through music. Beautiful sounds to enrich your lives and touch your souls. Sounds that falls on your face like gentle rains from the sky. Feel the tears of our music as it open your hearts to our cause. We are Music for a cure.
Thank You!
