These cyber darklings from the UK have been plying their trade for more than a decade. So what is their trade? Darkwave music, combining elements of metal, modern industrial and a healthy dose of 80's electronic music and never forgetting that most vital of ingredients, a song. In the studio FLESH EATING FOUNDATION are a well oiled machine with no shortage of ideas or imagination.
The name? The source of the name is somewhat unclear, and probably relates to some obscure horror film the band may or may not have watched a long time ago. What is clear is that despite the name, all three members are stout vegetarians. Irony?
The band play live on a regular basis, despite Jon Zero being partially sighted and deaf. The live experience combines harsh electronics with live guitars and keyboards and vocals, all delivered as an energetic controlled slab of electronic aggression.
The band have also built up a considerable fan base through their on-line presence. Most noteworthy is the band's record on the now defunct www.mp3.com where over a two year period a total of well over 100,000 plays were recorded. This translated into a long spell as no.1 downloaded industrial band in the UK (peaking at no.3 in the world). The band can now be found lurking on soundclick (where they enjoyed a lengthy spell as the number 1 industrial band, and a stint in the hot and unsigned feature) and funender music (where the band also run their industrial streaming radio entitled CGI, or Cyber Goth Industrial, a station dedicated to the promotion of underground bands).
FLESH EATING FOUNDATION are renowned for their habit of reconstructing other peoples material before unleashing it on live audiences. They have looked outside of their own genre and chosen songs such as 'Fade to Grey' by Visage, 'Never Let me Down' by Depeche Mode, 'Spin me Round' by Dead or Alive and 'In the Air Tonight' by Phil Collins(!!). With tongue set firmly in cheek they have also covered Britney Spears and tATu, with the results being aired in national radio
The band are currently hard at work on a full length recording for which they are seeking a label, for release in 2004. They have also completed work on the soundtrack to a short film, and are looking to undertake similar projects in the future.
