The Approach To Playing Guitar

Brian Sonneman Guitar By Brian Sonneman

The Six String

Some Historians believe the guitar may date back to as early as 1900-1800 B.C. or even earlier. Plaques found from excavations in Babylonia that showed figures playing instruments that resemble guitars.

Today’s modern electric guitar body is made up of the Tuning Keys - for tuning:
Headstock - decorative housing for tuning keys
Nut - holds strings in place
Frets - divides neck into sections of different notes
Pickups - "pick up" the vibration of the strings and creates an electric signal
Bridge - holds strings in place.

Tuning Your Guitar

This particular tuning is E-A-D-G-B-e. This is standard tuning; but it is not the only way to tune a guitar. After you, familiarize yourself with E-A-D-G-B-e, to try other tunings.

These are the open notes names of your six strings. You should always tune these notes to A440 concert pitch.

What is Standard Pitch or Concert Pitch and why do we need it?

Standard Pitch is a universal frequency or note that all instruments are set to. Today’s standard pitch is A440 or C523.3 and this concert pitch enables musicians to play instruments together in harmony. Therefore, you are going to need a tuner.
