Belgian composer and ambient artist Suntapes (aka Tomas Johan Kristian Vanderplaetse) has officially released his latest full-length album, Travel Motion—a stunning 8-track collection that merges cinematic ambient textures with neoclassical piano and rare world instruments. Known for his meticulous sound design and deep emotional resonance, Suntapes takes listeners on a reflective, genre-blurring journey across time, geography, and feeling.
Each track on Travel Motion is crafted with live instrumentation collected from Vanderplaetse’s global travels, including the Indian tanpura, Thai pin, Chinese ruan, and harmonium—woven seamlessly into analogue synthesizers, acoustic pianos, and textural bass. Four compositions are released under his classical name, Tomas Johan Kristian, grounding the album in the technical finesse of his concert music background while expanding its meditative, ambient core.
Highlights include “Overland,” which features in an upcoming documentary and sets the tone with a dark yet cinematic elegance, and “Galiano,” a tranquil ode to the Canadian island where much of the album's visual and sonic inspiration was captured. “Varkala” introduces a spiritual, drone-infused fusion of Indian classical instrumentation and melodic piano, showcasing Suntapes' respect for cultural authenticity and sonic depth.
Travel Motion is more than an ambient release—it’s an emotionally-charged listening experience for those who crave music with space, stillness, and soul. Available now on streaming platforms, the album offers a welcome pause in a fast-paced world, inviting listeners to get lost, reflect deeply, and maybe even travel without ever leaving the room.
