Swiss singer-songwriter Andrea Schmider has always had a gift for storytelling, and her new EP Potpourri is no exception. With five tracks that explore the many shades of the human experience, Schmider offers listeners a warm, honest, and emotionally rich collection that’s as comforting as it is thought-provoking.

The EP kicks off with “Set the Sails,” a song about embracing change and stepping into the unknown. Schmider’s voice is immediately captivating – expressive, clear, and full of feeling. The production is subtle but powerful, letting the lyrics take center stage as the music gently supports the emotional weight of each line.

One of the highlights of the EP is “Fractured Beauty,” inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi. Schmider sings about finding strength in brokenness, and the song’s delicate arrangement and hopeful tone are incredibly moving. Tracks like “Lonely Streets” and “Going in Circles” follow with similar emotional depth – each telling a story of transformation, whether through physical dislocation or inner frustration.

“Sweet Stillness,” the EP’s closer, is perhaps the most poignant moment. It’s an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the quiet joy within. The minimalist instrumentation lets Schmider’s vocals shine, wrapping the listener in a moment of much-needed calm.

With Potpourri, Andrea Schmider has created something truly special. Thoughtful lyrics, beautiful melodies, and heartfelt performances make this a standout release that fans of Lana Del Rey, Nina June, and Brooke Fraser will surely appreciate. It’s a collection that encourages us to embrace life’s full spectrum – the messy, the magical, and everything in between.
