Peter Bradley—yes, the ex-MP and author—has taken a bold creative leap into music with the release of his debut album as Brandes. Out now, The Distance Between Dreams, is a raw, poetic, and politically charged collection of songs drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, and early Dylan.

The album ranges from delicate acoustic laments (“Like A Dagger”) to indie-rock introspection (“From The Higher Ground”), all tied together by Brandes’s lyrical craftsmanship and unflinching honesty.

One of the most talked-about tracks, “Song for Mordecai”, is a genre-defying meditation on Jewish identity and history, inspired by George Eliot’s Daniel Deronda. Featuring Middle Eastern instrumentation, it’s as cinematic as it is spiritual.

Bradley, who published The Last Train in 2022—a personal historical account of the Holocaust—continues that legacy of remembrance and reflection through his music.

The album is a journey through heartbreak, history, and hope. Whether you're a history buff, a poetry nerd, or just someone who loves beautifully sad music, The Distance Between Dreams, deserves a spot in your headphones.
