Melodrift Team

Helsinki-based indie folk/pop artist Carla Aakre continues to enchant listeners with her introspective artistry, unveiling her latest single, ‘through’. Following the heartfelt and minimalist beauty of ‘watercolour’, Aakre’s newest offering invites listeners to explore profound emotions hidden in small gestures and fleeting moments. With a meticulous eye for detail, she transforms glances, expressions, and touches into a tender narrative of connection, hope, and love.

‘through’ is the second glimpse into Aakre’s forthcoming debut album, Things I Forgot to Tell You, set to release on February 7, 2025, via Kieku Records. The album promises to take listeners on a deeply personal journey through the singer-songwriter’s memories and emotions, blending longing, doubt, and joy into a mesmerizing musical experience. Known for her delicate storytelling, Aakre pushes the boundaries of indie folk/pop with imaginative lyricism and heartfelt reflections.

The single was recorded in intimate settings, including Aakre’s Helsinki studio flat and her family’s cottage in southern Finland, which infuse the track with warmth and authenticity. Working alongside producer and mixer Roni Ylhäinen, Aakre embraced analog techniques, recording many final takes on an 8-track multitracker to capture an organic and timeless sound. Further enhancing the track’s rich soundscape are string and horn arrangements crafted by her sister, Milla Käyhty, adding layers of elegance and emotion.

Through ‘through’ and the album as a whole, Aakre reflects on the fleeting nature of time and relationships, drawing inspiration from her surroundings and personal connections. Her ability to find beauty in the smallest details ensures her work resonates deeply with her audience.

As anticipation builds for, Things I Forgot to Tell You, Carla Aakre’s music continues to stand out for its intimacy, depth, and creativity, positioning her as a distinctive voice in the indie music scene.
