Elle Leon Gallagher returns with her sophomore LP, A Chara, a deeply felt exploration of friendship’s endurance across borders and years. For the Barcelona-based, Kildare-born artist, the record reflects a life shaped by distance and connection — the pull of home, the ache of absence, and the quiet joy of shared understanding. Gallagher’s distinctive sound, weaving effortlessly between indie, soul, and folk-rock, finds new emotional depth here, offering listeners both intimacy and expansiveness.
Spanning 11 tracks over 44 minutes, A Chara — meaning “dear friend” in Irish — was lovingly crafted over a year and a half with trusted collaborators. Much of the album was recorded live, and what wasn’t was captured in rehearsal spaces and home studios to preserve the warmth and authenticity of its creation. Co-produced with Guille Harrison, the result is a sonically rich, melody-driven work that balances lush arrangements with moments of raw simplicity. It’s an album that feels lived-in — an embrace in musical form.
Reflecting on the release, Gallagher describes A Chara as “an exploration of behaviours and thought processes provoked by close relationships,” delving into the bonds that define us — with ourselves, our families, and our chosen kin. Through her lens, friendship becomes both muse and mirror, a space where love, loss, and self-discovery intertwine. With A Chara, Elle Leon Gallagher not only cements her place as a singular voice in modern indie music but also offers a heartfelt meditation on connection in an ever-shifting world.
