In this exclusive interview, JD reflects on his musical journey, influences, and his vision of becoming a global force in the industry.

Welcome to MeloDrift. Can you tell us a little bit about your musical background?

I’ve always been a performer. Music, acting, entertaining—it’s all the same energy to me. I started writing songs at 8, dropped my first album at 14, and now I’m here to really show the world what I’ve got. I grew up watching artists who didn’t just make songs—they made moments and changed the game. That’s exactly what I’m here to do too.

If your life had a theme song, what would it be?

Something that feels like a victory lap before the win even happens. Big, cinematic, unapologetic. Like… the soundtrack of someone who already knows how the story ends.

Who or what have been the most impactful influences on your musical style and sound?

Artists like Kanye West, Jessie Reyez, and Bruno Mars have been huge influences on my sound, along with legendary performers like Michael Jackson, James Brown, and Elvis Presley. Each of them brings something different—boldness, performance, emotion. I take inspiration from all of that and shape it into my own world.

How do your life experiences shape your songwriting, and what emotions or ideas do you hope listeners connect with in your music?

Everything I create comes from real emotion—wins, losses, love, doubt. My life experiences shape every song I write. I want listeners to feel seen, but also feel stronger after hearing my music. Like they can step into their own power. I also enjoy transforming even the heaviest or darkest moments into something uplifting—fun, catchy songs that people can move to while still feeling something real.

Each phase of music-making has its own unique rewards. Could you share a memorable moment from each stage?

Each stage hits different.

Writing is everything—it’s where the story is born. I love taking real emotions and life experiences and turning them into something people can feel. It’s the foundation of everything I do.

Recording is when it comes to life. You capture that one take that feels alive, and suddenly what was inside you becomes something real you can play back and share.

Performing is the peak. When the crowd gives that energy back and it multiplies—that’s what I live for. I love performing, and I know it’s one of my strongest gifts. It’s where I feel most at home. Whether it’s 20 people or 20,000, I’m giving a stadium-level show every time.

Is there a song of yours that holds particular personal significance?

“Promise.” It represents everything I stand for. In a world that often avoids commitment, I chose to make a song about embracing it. Going against the grain has always been a big part of who I am, and this song captures that mindset in a really honest way.

If you could swap lives with any musician for a day, who would it be and what would you do?

I’d step into Kanye West’s shoes during a stadium show, just to feel that level of connection and command for one night. And performing a discography like his live? That would be insane.

What’s a guilty pleasure song you secretly love but might surprise your fans?

I don’t really do guilty pleasures. If I like it, I stand on it—no shame in my taste. My range is pretty wide too. I can go from Stronger by Kanye West to Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! by Vengaboys, to singing Figures by Jessie Reyez. Good music is good music.

Looking ahead, what are some goals or dreams you have for your music and career?

To become a global star. To headline arenas. To shift culture. Not just be part of the game… change it.

Finally, is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers before we close?

Yeah. Be fearless. Be bold. Stay gold. We’re not here to fit in. We’re here to break limits.
