Irem Bekter isn’t here to make things easy—and that’s exactly the point. On “Miscommunication (Lost In Transmission),” the Montréal-based songwriter turns everyday conversational chaos into something surprisingly addictive, layering languages, rhythms, and voices into a track that refuses to sit still.

There’s a playful unpredictability baked into the song’s DNA. One moment you’re grounded in a Turkish folk groove, the next you’re thrown into a swirl of English, French, and a sharp, scene-stealing Spanish rap from Akawui. It’s messy, sure—but intentionally so, and all the more engaging for it.

Behind the scenes, a tight ensemble keeps everything from spinning off entirely. Jean Massicotte’s arrangement holds the centre, while contributions from Yves Desrosiers and David Ryshpan add colour and momentum. Bekter’s use of drum machine gives the track a modern edge, subtly anchoring its more eclectic tendencies.

Think Ibrahim Maalouf meets indie experimentalism with a wink of theatricality. It’s not a track that hands you meaning on a plate—instead, it invites you to get lost in it. And honestly? That’s where the fun is.

“With ‘Miscommunication (Lost In Transmission),’ Irem captures the beauty and humour in human connection, where words flow freely but meaning can slip through the cracks. It’s playful, rhythmic, and utterly distinctive, showcasing her unique ability to blend cultures, languages, and musical traditions into something wholly original,” - music publicist Danielle Holian, Decent Music PR
