Danish singer-songwriter NikoCorlin is set to captivate audiences with her forthcoming EP, If You Can Dream It, a bold exploration of ambition, fragile relationships, and the systemic sexism within the music industry. Following the success of her debut album, Corlin has taken a significant step forward, using her artistry to address both personal and societal challenges through a lens of vulnerability and resilience.
The inception of If You Can Dream It stemmed from an intense period of self-reflection. After the release of her debut album, NikoCorlin ventured to New York City, where she locked herself away for five weeks in a small room. “I wanted to confront my self-doubt head-on,” she explains. “The isolation was essential to drown out the noise and focus entirely on my music.” This self-imposed retreat allowed her to tap into the raw emotions that would ultimately shape the EP.
The result is a collection of five tracks that encapsulate a journey through her artistic vision, each song a testament to the struggles and triumphs she has faced as a woman in the music industry. “The songs explore the different facets of being an artist, especially as a woman,” she notes. “Some tracks have an intimate, introspective vibe, while others invite listeners to dance through their insecurities.”
To bring her vision to life, NikoCorlin collaborated with a team of talented musicians, including Julius Amdisen, Milo Duckert Aurvig, and Emil Emborg. Their contributions add depth and texture to the EP, creating a rich soundscape that complements Corlin’s evocative lyrics.
The latest single, “Late To The Party,” serves as a poignant critique of gender imbalance in the Danish music scene, making it a standout track on the EP. The song not only highlights the challenges women face but also emphasizes the importance of solidarity in navigating a male-dominated industry. NikoCorlin’s candid exploration of these themes positions her as an important voice in contemporary music, one that encourages dialogue about gender equality and empowerment.
The title If You Can Dream It encapsulates the essence of the EP, reflecting the dual nature of dreams. “As long as you can dream and believe in it, it will succeed,” she reflects. Yet, she also acknowledges the pain that can accompany unfulfilled aspirations. This duality resonates throughout the EP, inviting listeners to embrace their dreams while confronting the realities of their journey.
NikoCorlin’s musical approach is characterized by simplicity and emotional depth. She employs large synth surfaces and multiple vocal tracks to convey a spectrum of feelings—from sorrow to clarity—creating a sound that feels both expansive and intimate. This blend of styles allows her to articulate complex emotions, fostering a deep connection with her audience.
As NikoCorlin prepares to release If You Can Dream It, she hopes to inspire others to embrace their authenticity and pursue their dreams, regardless of the obstacles they may face. “I want listeners to feel seen and heard,” she shares. “Music has the power to connect us, and I hope my songs resonate with those who have faced similar challenges.”
With If You Can Dream It, NikoCorlin has crafted a powerful and personal EP that not only showcases her artistic growth but also serves as a rallying cry for self-acceptance and resilience in the face of adversity. As she continues to push the boundaries of her artistry, her voice promises to leave a lasting impact on the music industry and beyond.
