Sam Sample continues to carve out her own corner of the modern Americana landscape, returning with a beautifully crafted reimagining of Catfish and the Bottlemen’s beloved fan favourite ‘7’. Teaming up with fellow songwriter Cam Harper, the rising artist transforms the indie-rock staple into a sweeping, rootsy anthem that feels both intimate and expansive.

Already recognised for her self-coined “AmeriRock” sound, Sample has spent recent years building momentum entirely on her own terms. Balancing a full-time career with an unwavering commitment to her music, she has steadily cultivated a devoted audience through honest songwriting and genre-blurring arrangements. The result is a catalogue that effortlessly bridges folk, Americana, and alternative rock influences.

On ‘7’, that approach shines brightly. Gentle acoustic textures and warm country-inflected instrumentation lay the foundation before Sample and Harper’s harmonies begin to unfold. As the track progresses, it gradually builds into an emotionally resonant crescendo, preserving the yearning spirit of the original while introducing a newfound cinematic depth.

The release arrives with genuine personal significance. A longtime admirer of Catfish and the Bottlemen, Sample travelled repeatedly to the UK to catch the band live, inspired by their consistency and emotional immediacy. Following a chance meeting with Harper at a songwriting expo in late 2025, the pair bonded over their shared appreciation for the group and first introduced their version of ‘7’ through a TikTok performance that quickly resonated with fans.

Produced by Garrett Hall, the studio recording captures the organic chemistry between all three collaborators. More than a straightforward cover, ‘7’ stands as another compelling chapter in Sample’s artistic evolution, offering a glimpse into the broader sonic ambitions shaping her forthcoming second album.
