Sukie Mason emerges from the San Francisco music scene with a debut EP that refuses to settle. My Blue, Blue Sky is a kaleidoscope of sounds, from folk-inspired melodies to honky-tonk blues and smoky jazz. “I think of music like a language,” Mason says, “and writing across genres opens me up to more stories.” That philosophy is evident across every track, as she effortlessly navigates style and storytelling.
The EP’s opening track, Move Along, is a buoyant Country/Americana romp about resilience and self-empowerment. Tight harmonies and witty, relatable lyrics set the tone for Mason’s narrative-driven songwriting. Meanwhile, Believe Me delivers a darker twist—a bluesy murder ballad set in an Old West saloon, exploring themes of danger, deceit, and societal disbelief. Mason proves she’s unafraid to tackle complex emotional territory.
On Can’t Sing in That Key, Mason slows the pace, diving into jazz-infused melancholy. Recognized as a finalist in the Great American Song Contest, the track is elevated by Kevin Stewart’s lyrical saxophone lines, creating a smoky, cinematic atmosphere. Across the EP, Mason’s voice is both expressive and commanding, and her genre-spanning compositions make My Blue, Blue Sky a debut worth celebrating.
