The Guilteens’ latest single, Born Evil, emerges with the confidence of a band no longer testing the waters but plunging headlong into the depths. Where their earlier work leaned toward shadowy experimentalism, this new release wields its melancholy with sharper intent, capturing both immediacy and mystery. Produced with a deft hand by Christian Best and sculpted further by John ‘Spud’ Murphy’s mix, the track bears the polish of seasoned collaborators without losing the rough edge that makes The Guilteens’ sound so intoxicating.

Seductive in its atmospherics, the single conjures visions of half-lit rooms and dream fragments stitched together by reverb and grit. Finn Sedas’s voice quivers between vulnerability and command, carrying lines that straddle poetry and confession before erupting into a chorus that feels both spectral and anthemic. The interplay between spectral slide-guitar and the rhythm section creates a haunting tension—equal parts shoegaze shimmer and alt-rock bite—that lingers like smoke long after the final chord decays.

If Born Evil is any indication, The Guilteens’ forthcoming debut EP Heavy Letters will not only cement their reputation within Ireland’s ever-fertile underground but also carve a place for them on larger stages. There is a cinematic scope to their sound, nodding to psychedelia and New Wave aesthetics while staying rooted in visceral rock urgency. With its eerie hooks and uncanny immediacy, Born Evil is more than just a single—it’s a statement of arrival, brimming with restless energy and spectral allure.
