Norwegian alt-pop artist MIIA has released her long-awaited debut album, Huldra, a thirteen-track collection that transforms one of Scandinavia's most enduring legends into a deeply personal exploration of love, loss, healing, and identity. Running just over 41 minutes, the album blends pop, indie pop, dream pop, electronic pop, dark pop, and Nordic influences to create a cinematic listening experience that reflects MIIA's evolution as both a songwriter and storyteller.
Produced by Benjamin Dan Ravn Fahre and Joachim JR Rygg, Huldra draws inspiration from the mythical forest spirit known throughout Norwegian, Swedish, and German folklore. Traditionally portrayed as both alluring and dangerous, the huldra becomes a symbol of authenticity, resilience, and emotional freedom throughout the album. Songs including "I Can Tell a Lie," "Necessary Evil," "Delicious," and "I'm in Love with You" each capture different stages of personal transformation before closing with the reflective "Huldrarave."
MIIA first captured international attention in 2015 with her breakout single "Dynasty," which has since surpassed 400 million streams worldwide. Over the past decade she has continued to build an impressive catalogue through acclaimed releases, orchestral performances, and appearances including Norway's Melodi Grand Prix 2024. Alongside her music, she has become known for advocating gender equality, climate action, and human rights while fostering a close relationship with her global fan community, affectionately known as her Beautiful Creatures.
With Huldra, MIIA delivers her most ambitious project to date. The album serves not only as a milestone in her career but also as an invitation for listeners to embrace vulnerability, complexity, and the untamed parts of themselves that deserve to be celebrated rather than hidden.
